Dutch Police Detain 22 Protesters at Amsterdam Concert
Around 200 individuals gathered at Museumplein Square, opposite the Concertgebouw concert hall, voicing chants directed at Abramson. Police detained 22 of the protesters, some for carrying fireworks, according to a news agency.
Tensions reportedly escalated between law enforcement and the protesters after barriers confined the crowd to the square.
A temporary court order permitted 30 demonstrators to conduct a silent protest inside the Concertgebouw, while the rest were required to remain at Museumplein, following an arrangement with the protest organizers.
Earlier in the day, a brief demonstration had seen protesters block two entrances to the Concertgebouw, leading to additional arrests by the police.
Abramson was scheduled to perform at the Concertgebouw’s annual Hannukah concert. However, the venue requested that the organizer replace him, a suggestion that was declined.
The Concertgebouw explained that Abramson's participation was "at odds with the Concertgebouw's mission to connect people with music."
